Film screening: Stone Bodies, Red Sea: Judith Noble with Charlotte Prodger and Frances Young

To coincide with Midsummer, Stone Bodies, Red Sea brings together the work of three artists as part of an evening of moving image, readings and music. The event orbits four works made by Judith Noble in the early 1980s, in which the self is staged against interweaving interior and exterior landscapes. The dreamlike sequences of Noble’s early films include Water into Wine (1980), which combines the testimony of 27 women made over 13 lunar months, and Mysteries (1982), a solitary celebration on the beach of Penmon, Anglesey. This rare screening will be accompanied by recent work by Charlotte Prodger and Frances Young. Brought together around the time of the summer solstice, traditionally celebrated as the day when the sun stands still, the rhythmic returns of moving image unfold across time as relationships between bodies, landscape and technology are remade on ever shifting ground.
