Look Around Your World Pretty Baby, Is It Everything You Hoped It’d Be? provokes thought about the world we live in – from existential questions about life and the growing up process, to questioning value systems, notions of success and wider issues such as economic inequalities, poverty and war.
The artist I. Relevant presents a series of work using either ‘borrowed’ lyrics from popular songs or familiar childhood experiences to spark conversations. Through playful and interactive mediums, audiences are invited to engage with the exhibition as a starting point for discussing broader political issues.
The exhibition includes new work created in collaboration with Refugees Welcome. Using a wooden arbour as a canvas thoughts and experiences are shared inside empty speech bubbles. Each caption is presented in the group’s native language and paired with an English translation. Viewers are invited to match the drawings to decipher the messages.
