Julie Myers – Site Specific Composition

Thursday 29 June / 7:30pm
Part of MK CityFest, this event will produce three unique soundtracks for public space in Central Milton Keynes. Developed as a graphic score by visual artist Julie Myers, in collaboration with saxophonist Simon Rose and trombonist Hilary Jeffery the musicians will respond to the environment they encounter as a live performance. Audiences will be led to three sites over the course of the event.

Julie Myers makes work in response to people and place. Her work combines sound film, photography and drawing together with mobile and web technologies. She looks for accessible, everyday ways that people make sense of their environment through memory, personal experience and the representation of story. These concerns have been extended through collaborations with musicians, school children, senior citizens, scientists, gardeners, architects and others.

Recent commissions have included: Bedford Creative Arts (2017, 2016); Creative Europe Programme (2015-2017); Sound and Music (2015); Arts Council England (2010, 2009, 206); The British Council (2008).

Hilary Jeffery is a highly regarded trombonist and composer. He has played in a wide variety of genres and has numerous commissions as composer. He is particularly known for his extensive work in contemporary music.

Simon Rose performs on baritone and alto saxophones in numerous collaborations and as soloist. He also collaborates beyond music with dancers, visual artists, built instruments, site specific performance and more. His research interest is in creative processes.
