Re-opening safely

Our galleries, cinema, shop and cafe will be open Friday – Sunday, 10am-5pm throughout September and October. Our cinema will also be open Friday evenings. 

We are delighted to welcome you back and have introduced a range of measures to keep you safe.

We have restricted our visitor capacity so that visitors can adhere to social distancing guidelines. 

Face coverings will be mandatory inside MK Gallery as required by law, unless you have a legitimate reason not to wear one. 

We will be implementing a one-way system throughout the building. Please observe relevant signage. 

Hand Sanitiser stations are placed throughout the building for your use. 

Visitors to our galleries, cinema and those using our cafe are required to provide their contact details to support the NHS Test and Trace programme. 

Our lockers are not in use, so please travel light as large bags are not permitted in the galleries. 

Enhanced cleaning will be increased throughout the building. 

If you are feeling unwell, please stay at home. 

Galleries 

Visits to the MK Calling 2020 exhibition will need to be pre-booked and will have allocated time slots. Book here. 

The last entry slot into the exhibition is 4.30pm 

Please do not touch anything in the exhibition, this includes screens as well as of course the artworks.

Skyroom Cinema 

Screenings will take place Fridays 10.30, 2pm & 7pm, Saturdays 10.30 & 2pm and Sundays 10.30 & 2pm. See what's showing here.

We will be running the cinema with reduced capacity in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

This means for the time being you will be automatically allocated your seats rather than being able to self-select when booking.

You will need to wait to be seated by a member of our team.

Face coverings must be worn except when eating and drinking. 

Children under the age of 11 are not required to wear a face covering. 

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Skyroom cinema will be cleaned following each screening.

Shop 

Our gallery shop will be open.  

Members of our team will monitor how many people are in the shop at any one time. 

We are taking card payment only and we will be using contactless payment where possible.

Cafe 

Our café is open from 10am, with fresh coffee, a selection of teas and cakes on offer.

We will be using contactless payment.

There will be reduced capacity in our cafe to ensure social distancing.

MK Gallery have been awarded Good To Go status, designed by VisitEngland and recognised by the National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This Industry Standard mark confirms that we have followed government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, ensuring processes are in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing.

By Car from M1

Exit at Jct 14 & follow signs for central MK.

By Car from the A5

Exit at A509 Portway Jct and follow signs for Central Milton Keynes.

Parking

There are metered parking spaces and a multi-storey car park in the vicinity. Consult the city parking map here.

Disabled Parking
There are a few disabled parking spaces at the entrance to Margaret Powell Square serving MK Theatre and MK Gallery visitors.

Transport information

Train

MK Central Station is 30 minutes from London Euston on the Birmingham / Manchester / Glasgow main line served by Virgin and London Midland services. Allow c.25 mins to walk to the Gallery from MK rail station.

Local Buses

Regular services (routes 1-8 & 300) run from Milton Keynes Central rail station. You can catch these from stops Y1/Y2/Y3/Y5, ask for the Theatre District stop on Midsummer Boulevard.

Taxi

Takes c.5-10 mins from MK Central rail station


Bike

Santander bikes are available to hire from outside Milton Keynes Central Station, a docking station is located next to Slug & Lettuce, less than 2 minutes walk from MK Gallery.

Lime bikes are also available to hire via their app.

Bike racks are located outside the MK Gallery main building.

Access

MK Gallery is accessible to all. The building is wheelchair friendly and we welcome assistance dogs. Accessible toilets can be found on every floor, with a Changing Places toilet on the ground floor. 


Personal Assistant/ Carer tickets can be requested at no additional cost for all ticketed events.


Due to fire regulations our Skyroom Auditorium can currently only accommodate two wheelchairs. 

Cafe Bar

Our cafe/ bar is open from 10am, with fresh coffee, a selection of teas and mouth-watering locally made cakes on offer. We are introducing a new range of Gluten free and vegan cakes to our menu along with tubs of locally sourced ice cream. We will be offering a range off snacks and sweets for those visiting the cinema.

Project Space

MK Gallery's Project Space, located in Margaret Powell Square opposite the main gallery, hosts monthly exhibitions of contemporary visual art by individuals or groups based in Milton Keynes.
