Mapping the Right to the (New) City

Milton Keynes Development Corporation’s vision was that residents would actively lead on the design of their neighbourhoods. They supported Milton Keynes Urban Studies Centre to employ artist Ash Brown to illustrate trails highlighting heritage architecture, community facility and natural environment within the city’s grid system, and also encouraged a proposal by the Greentown Group, for an eco-community at Crownhill. Archival documents from these projects are drawn together in an exhibition in the MK Gallery project space and used as a stimulus for meetings and workshops led by Associate Artist whatsthebigmistry

whatsthebigmistry will take her Wheelie Mobile – a contraption for meeting people and explore places  – on short perambulations of Central Milton Keynes to provoke conversations about the changing nature of place, as well as leading workshops and discussions with older Milton Keynes residents.

We are also working with Age UK Milton Keynes and Virtual Viewing with the support of Our MK  to develop an age friendly map and app in consultation with older MK residents. This collaboration is part of the ‘Smart City’ imitative that uses digital technologies to transform and sustain communities.
